The Women of the Revolution
12th
Women played a key role in the struggle for Irish Freedom and in the campaign for equality, however their contribution and their stories are often forgotten and uncelebrated. History is very often told from the male perspective, his story.. well now is the time to tell ‘her story’.
The North Leitrim Women’s Centre with the support of Leitrim County Council’s Ireland 2016 Fund want to remember and honour the women of this period, we are hosting a series of talks highlighting the role that women played in the events of the time.
Women were couriers, nurses, intelligence agents and organisers; they collected money, transported weapons around the country and fought side by side with their male counterparts. As well as those who took a direct role those that didn’t were also affected, left alone to raise families and keep communities and homes together.
So come along and join us and find out exactly what the women of the time got up to!
